Tire valve stem replacement

If the tire valve stem is broken, how should we replace it ? The following are the detailed steps for replacing the tire valve stem:

I. Preparation

1.Tool preparation

You need a tire valve core wrench (for removing and installing the tire valve core), a tire changer (if you want to disassemble the tire to replace the tire valve stem, this equipment is more common in auto repair shops), Tire Mounting Paste , and a new tire valve stem (make sure the tire valve stem matches the tire model, including size and applicable air pressure range, etc.).
Needle-nosed pliers can be used as an auxiliary tool for clamping the tire valve stem and other operations.

2.Safety measures

If it is a car tire, make sure the vehicle is parked safely, pull the handbrake, and it is best to lift the vehicle with a jack and support it with a safety stand to prevent the vehicle from moving. For vehicles such as motorcycles, it is also necessary to ensure that the vehicle is placed stably and will not tip over.

II. Replacement steps (taking car tires as an example)

1.Deflate

Use a tire valve core wrench to loosen the valve core and completely release the gas in the tire. This step is to facilitate subsequent operations, because it may be difficult to remove the valve stem of a tire with air pressure.
Remove the old valve stem (if you are not removing the tire)
If you are not removing the tire to replace the tire valve stem, you can try to clamp the bottom of the old tire valve stem with needle-nosed pliers and carefully pull it out of the valve hole of the tire. However, this method may be laborious and can easily damage the tire valve hole.
Another more common situation is to remove the tire to replace the tire valve stem. Use a tire changer to remove the tire from the wheel hub, and then the old tire valve stem can be easily pushed out of the valve hole from the inside of the tire.

2.Install the new tire valve stem

Apply a small amount of grease (such as vaseline) to the rubber seal of the new tire valve stem. This will help the tire valve stem to install smoothly and enhance the sealing effect.
Insert the new tire valve stem into the valve hole from the inside of the tire, making sure that the tire valve stem is installed in place and the rubber seal is tightly against the valve hole.
Reinstall the tire (if the tire was removed before)
Use a tire changer to reinstall the tire on the wheel hub.

3.Inflate and check

Inflate the tire to the specified pressure value. You can refer to the vehicle manual or the pressure range marked on the side of the tire.
After inflation, check for leaks around the valve stem. You can use soapy water to apply around the valve stem. If bubbles are generated, it means there is a leak and you need to recheck the installation of the tire valve stem or replace the valve core.
For smaller tires such as motorcycle tires, the steps for replacing the tire valve stem are roughly the same, but the operation may be relatively simpler because the tire is smaller and easier to handle. During the entire replacement process, be careful to avoid damaging the tire and tire valve stem.
